Families interested in Scouting often have a few simple questions before they are ready to join.
Where does the unit meet? What does it cost? Can their child visit first? How do they register?
Those questions do not always arrive during business hours. Parents may explore Scouting after bedtime, between activities or over the weekend. MOVO helps ensure they can receive an answer when their interest is highest.
What Is MOVO?
MOVO is live with the new BeAScout website. When a family submits an inquiry through BeAScout, MOVO can respond within minutes by text, email or phone.
It handles routine questions about meeting details, costs, visiting before joining and registration. There is nothing for units to install, and leaders do not need to monitor another inbox every day.
MOVO does not replace unit leaders or the personal welcome that makes Scouting special. It handles the common questions that come before a family visits, allowing volunteers to spend more of their time delivering a strong program.
A Game Changer for Membership
MOVO becomes even more powerful when paired with Orange County Council’s complimentary youth membership campaign.
Complimentary membership helps reduce the initial financial barrier for eligible new families. MOVO helps remove another common barrier: waiting for the information needed to move forward.
Together, they create a clearer path into Scouting. A parent can inquire through BeAScout, quickly receive answers about a local unit and learn how to register without waiting for regular business hours.
That combination is a game changer. Families can get their questions answered when they are ready and take their first step into Scouting with fewer barriers standing in the way.
Technology can answer the first questions, but families ultimately join because of the people and experiences they find in their local Scouting program. A warm welcome, a prompt response and a strong first visit remain essential.
Your BeAScout Pin Matters
MOVO uses information from your unit’s BeAScout pin to answer questions about meeting times, locations and costs.
That means the quality of its answers depends on the quality of the information your unit provides.
Every pack, troop, crew and ship should review its BeAScout pin and make sure all public information is accurate and current. Pay particular attention to:
- Meeting days and times
- Meeting locations
- Unit costs
- Registration information
- Contact information
An outdated phone number, meeting location or cost could prevent an interested family from taking the next step.
If your information changes, update your BeAScout pin or provide the corrected information to MOVO. Keeping the pin current helps families receive accurate answers every time.
When MOVO Needs a Leader
Most routine questions can be handled without requiring a volunteer’s time. Occasionally, a family will ask something only the unit can answer, such as where to enter the building or whether they can attend a particular meeting.
When that happens, a unit contact receives a notification. The leader replies in their own words, and MOVO passes the response to the family.
There is no additional inbox to monitor. If MOVO does not need your help, you will not receive a notification. Units can also designate more than one leader to receive questions so a family is not waiting on one person’s availability.
What Unit Leaders Should Do Now
Please take a few minutes to review your BeAScout pin and confirm that everything is up to date.
You should also have received an email from MOVO containing your unit’s sign-in link. Search your inbox for “MOVO” if you cannot find it.
MOVO can answer the first questions. Complimentary membership can make the first step easier. Our Scouters complete the experience by welcoming families and showing them what Scouting can offer.
If you need a new sign-in link, have questions about MOVO or need help updating your BeAScout information, contact your District Executive.
