Take Your Water Skills Further with Lifesaving Merit Badge

Scouts can build water-rescue skills through the Lifesaving Merit Badge course at IROEC beginning October 17.

Strong swimming skills can become the foundation for helping others. This fall, Scouts can learn water-safety and rescue techniques while working toward the Eagle-required Lifesaving Merit Badge.

The course will be held in the pool at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. Participants should have strong swimming skills and feel comfortable in deep water.

Course schedule

The class meets from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. on three Saturdays:

  • October 17
  • October 24
  • October 31

Participants must attend all three sessions.

Requirements to know before registering

Scouts BSA participants must have completed the Swimming Merit Badge to earn the Lifesaving Merit Badge. Participants must also attend the required Swim Test Day on September 26.

A completed Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A and B, must be submitted at check-in. Families should review the welcome letter and other information attached to the registration page before the course begins.

Registration closes October 15 at 4:00 p.m. Space and current pricing should be confirmed through the registration page.
