The units that grow in the fall usually have one thing in common: they start preparing well before school begins.
To help unit leaders get ready, Orange County Council is hosting Membership Training: Essentials for Fall Recruitment on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Orange County Council Service Center in Santa Ana. The training runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and lunch is included for those who register by May 26.
This workshop is designed for:
- Membership Chairs
- New Member Coordinators
- Cub Scout Leaders
- Scouts BSA Leaders
- Venturing, Sea Scout, and Exploring Leaders
- Any volunteer interested in growing their unit
The agenda focuses on practical topics that leaders can use immediately. Participants will review successful local recruiting strategies, proven techniques for attracting new families, and ideas for organizing engaging join events. The session will also cover tools that support both youth recruitment and parent volunteer engagement.
For new leaders, the training offers a clear framework for planning a productive recruiting season. For experienced volunteers, it provides an opportunity to compare ideas, hear what is working in other units, and refine existing approaches.
The timing is intentional. By the end of May, units can leave with a plan in place and be ready to act as families begin making decisions about activities for the coming school year.
In a council working toward long-term membership growth, fall recruitment remains one of the most important parts of the calendar. Preparation now can have a meaningful impact on a unit’s strength and stability throughout the year.
