At just 15 years old, Scouting America alumnus Clovis Hung has made history.

Recently, Hung became the youngest graduate in the history of the University of California, Irvine’s School of Humanities. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in anthropology, reaching a milestone few people accomplish at any age.

His passion for learning started early. In fact, Clovis began taking college classes when he was just nine years old. Today, he is already preparing for his next challenge. This fall, he will enter Fullerton College’s Bachelor of Science program in drone and autonomous systems, where he plans to continue exploring aviation and emerging technology.

Throughout that journey, Scouting remained an important part of his life.

While every Scout’s path is different, the qualities developed through Scouting often remain the same. Curiosity encourages young people to ask questions. Leadership teaches them to serve others. Perseverance helps them overcome challenges. Together, those experiences build confidence that extends well beyond troop meetings and campouts.

Likewise, Clovis’ story demonstrates that Scouting complements academic achievement rather than competing with it. Young people can pursue ambitious goals while continuing to benefit from the leadership, service, and character development Scouting provides.

Orange County Council is proud to celebrate Scouts and Scouting alumni who continue to make a difference. Some become engineers. Others become teachers, entrepreneurs, military leaders, physicians, researchers, or public servants. In every case, their accomplishments reflect the lasting impact of a program that encourages young people to lead, serve, and never stop learning.

Congratulations to Clovis on this remarkable accomplishment. We look forward to seeing where his passion for learning takes him next.
