Every strong Scout unit has one thing in common: trained, confident adult leaders.
For many volunteers, Wood Badge is the course that changes how they lead. It sharpens communication, strengthens teamwork, and provides practical tools that carry back into packs, troops, crews, and ships across the council.
Now, Orange County Council is accepting applications for the Course Director of the Fall 2027 Wood Badge course.
This role is one of the most meaningful leadership opportunities available to an experienced Scouter. The Course Director is responsible for assembling and guiding the staff team, setting the tone for the course, and helping deliver one of Scouting’s premier adult leadership experiences.
For those who have staffed Wood Badge, it is a chance to give back to a program that has shaped thousands of leaders. For the council, it is an opportunity to identify the next volunteer who will help develop the leaders who, in turn, support Scouts across Orange County.
Applicants must have:
- Served as a Troop Guide on a Wood Badge course
- Served in at least one additional key staff role, such as Assistant Scoutmaster, Senior Patrol Leader, or lead Quartermaster
- Staffed no more than four Wood Badge courses in total
Applications are due June 6, 2026.
If you have been considering the next step in your Wood Badge journey, this is an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to leadership development in our council.
