For many families, the first step into Scouting begins with a simple search.
On August 3, 2026, BeAScout will introduce an updated experience designed to help families learn more about local Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, and other Scouting America programs before they reach out.
The update focuses on answering the questions new families often ask first: When does the unit meet? What does it cost? Can my family visit before joining?
To prepare, unit leaders can now update several new fields through their Unit Pin settings in Organization Manager.
New Information Families Will See
Fundraising Helps Cover Costs
Let families know if your unit offers fundraising opportunities that help reduce the cost of participating.
Trial Visit Available
Show families they are welcome to visit a meeting and experience Scouting before making a decision.
Unit Fee
Share any additional unit dues or costs beyond the national membership fee.
Meeting Schedule
Provide important details including:
- Meeting frequency
- Meeting day
- Start time
- End time
Keeping this information current helps families find a unit that fits their schedule and understand what to expect before their first visit.
Unit leaders are encouraged to update their Unit Pin information before August 3 to ensure their details are ready when the new BeAScout experience launches.
Please note: Updates made to these new fields before August 3 will not appear publicly until the new experience goes live.
A complete Unit Pin helps remove barriers, answer questions, and welcome the next generation of Scouts.
