Scouting is built on trust. Parents count on trained adults, clear rules, and strong safeguards. That starts with every registered volunteer completing Safeguarding Youth Training.
All Scouting America registered volunteers must complete this training each year. New adult volunteers must also complete it before joining. The course helps adults understand how to prevent harm, recognize warning signs, follow reporting rules, and maintain safe boundaries with youth.
Volunteers can complete the training online through My.Scouting.org. After logging in, go to the Volunteer Learn Center and select Safeguarding Youth Training. New volunteers can create an account and complete the course before their registration is finalized.
Scouting America also offers a Safeguarding Youth Refresher for eligible volunteers. If your full training is still current, or expired within the last seven days, you may take the refresher instead of the full course. If your training expired more than seven days ago, you must complete the full course again.
The refresher appears in the Volunteer Learn Center as:
- Safeguarding Youth Refresher
- Curso de actualización SYT
This training helps keep Scouting one of the safest programs for youth. Before summer activities, fall recruitment, and the next program year, leaders should check their status and complete any required training.
Safe programs depend on trained adults. Please confirm your training is current today.
