Leadership is learned by doing. National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) gives Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop leadership techniques they can bring back to their units, schools, and communities. This six-day course combines hands-on outdoor experiences with proven leadership instruction in a challenging and supportive environment.

Course Dates

Participants must attend both weekends.

  • November 13–15, 2026
  • November 20–22, 2026

Location

Oso Lake Scout Camp
21131 Los Alisos Blvd.
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688

What You’ll Learn

NYLT introduces youth to practical leadership skills they can immediately apply in their home units and everyday life. Throughout the course, participants will:

  • Build confidence as leaders.
  • Improve communication and teamwork.
  • Practice planning and problem-solving.
  • Learn how to lead teams through real outdoor challenges.
  • Complete a capstone Leadership Challenge with their patrol.

The course blends classroom instruction with camping, outdoor activities, and patrol-based experiences that reinforce leadership through action.
