With the 2025 camping season officially open, Cub Scout leaders and parents have the opportunity to bring their Scouts to Oso Lake for an outdoor experience filled with adventure, learning, and fun.

Oso Lake Scout Camp, located in Rancho Santa Margarita, provides an ideal setting for Cub Scouts to experience the outdoors in a safe and structured environment. With its 100-acre lake, well-maintained campsites, and a variety of program offerings, the camp serves as an excellent destination for weekend campouts, day events, and Pack overnighters.

Activities Designed for Cub Scouts

Oso Lake offers a variety of age-appropriate activities designed to keep Cub Scouts engaged while building confidence and outdoor skills.

The camp’s archery and BB gun range provide opportunities for Scouts to develop their marksmanship in a safe and controlled setting under the supervision of trained instructors. The fishing dock allows Cubs to experience the thrill of catching a fish, many for the first time. The nature trails surrounding the camp offer guided hikes where Scouts can learn about local wildlife, practice outdoor ethics, and complete requirements for rank advancements.

Additionally, the campfire circle serves as the perfect setting for storytelling, skits, and traditional Scout songs, helping build camaraderie and lasting memories.

A Safe and Well-Organized Camping Experience

Oso Lake is designed to provide a structured and safe environment where Cub Scouts can explore the outdoors while leaders and parents enjoy a well-organized program. Campsites are equipped with picnic tables, water access, and designated fire pits, ensuring a comfortable stay for all participants.

For units looking to plan an upcoming trip, reservations are required and can be made through the Orange County Council’s Outdoor Adventures team. Campouts can be tailored to meet the needs of different Packs, with flexible scheduling and options for guided programming.

With camping season back in full swing, Cub Scout leaders and parents are encouraged to take advantage of all that Oso Lake has to offer. From building outdoor skills to fostering teamwork and independence, a weekend at camp provides Cub Scouts with an experience they will carry with them for years to come.
